Relocation is major business boost for BioCare

An innovative West Midland healthcare business is achieving record growth, creating jobs and launching new products after relocating from its old Birmingham offices to purpose-built office space and warehouse space in Redditch.

BioCare Ltd, which had been at the Lakeside Centre in Kings Norton for some 30 years, is now operating from Hedera Road on Ravensbank Business Park.

Head of marketing, Kelly Smith, says the move to new offices and warehouse, designed and fitted out to their requirements, has been the catalyst for transformation.

“We wanted to implement changes right across the business, replacing our plastic pots by glass containers with reusable metal lids and recyclable paper labels, refreshing the brand with a new strapline, installing a CRM system and giving everything a new look and feel,” she says.

“However, the company had been in its old offices for so long that the space was a real mish-mash. Our move was central to the new-look business, but we needed to find the right type of space and in a location with excellent connectivity.”

Identifying the new location, the move, and the fit-out of the offices and warehouse was masterminded by teams from Birmingham-based commercial property agents, KWB.

The director of KWB Workplace, Adrian Southall, admits the project’s different elements made it a demanding and complex challenge.

“Easy access to the M42 was crucial because the business is built around the speed and efficiency of its deliveries, but the new location also had to be easy to reach from Kings Norton, because they wanted all their employees to relocate,” he says.

“However, it’s never easy to find high quality hybrid space, with offices and integral warehouse, and BioCare also had very specific requirements about every aspect of the project.

“You’d expect the fit-out to include such elements as new and efficient systems for picking and packing, but we went right down to the installation of a recording room, because they do a lot of webinars, provide free online education and offer phone-based nutritional advice to customers.”

Kelly and her colleagues have been delighted by the relocation and fit-out, their operational systems are running as planned and BioCare is looking forward to a buoyant 2021.

“Probiotics are still our best seller, but products containing Vitamins C and D moved sharply up the sales charts last year. There’s a much greater awareness about healthcare and issues around immunity, and we have just launched a liquid liposomal Vitamin C supplement, which is proving very popular.

“We had a 10% growth target for 2020, but actually exceeded it. This year, we’re aiming for more growth, which we consider realistic. Everyone relocated, and we’ve taken on more staff in customer-facing roles, so we now employ 60 people.”
