KWB coast to coast – the results are in!
On 11th August 2018, six members of the KWB commercial property team successfully completed the 111.8-mile coast to coast cycle ride, raising just over £4,800 on behalf of Dementia UK.
The successful team consisted of Mark Robinson, Toby Barnett, John Bryce, Akim Kamangira, Jon Tedstone, Andy Nuttall and Ben Voss Wood. The team trained vigorously for the event and were excited for the opportunity to ‘give back’ in any way they could.
The journey chosen by KWB was from Silloth to South Shields, loosely following Hadrian’s wall. The KWB team was split into two sub-teams, one team cycling the full route and the other team starting from the 50-mile mark, all finishing in the final destination of South Shields. Fortunately for the team, they were blessed with good weather, and even a spot of sunshine!
John Bryce, Director of KWB Holdings Ltd, said: “We were all relieved to have finished the cycle, and are all proud of ourselves that we managed to complete it with no serious accidents, and everybody in one piece!”
Dementia is increasingly prevalent currently affecting over 850,000 people within the UK, which is a figure that’s set to reach just over one million by 2021. The focus behind the charity Dementia UK, is their Admiral Nurses, who are there to provide dementia sufferers and their families with specialist dementia support. The cost of providing Admiral Nurses is incredibly high, but this service is invaluable.
John Bryce said “I undertook the coast to coast ride to not only test myself and see if I could actually achieve it, but also for the special cause, Dementia. Special thanks to Ben Voss Wood for putting together the whole thing, and for making us all laugh and keeping our spirits high throughout the challenge!”
KWB would like to thank everyone for their kind and generous donations and would like to remind everybody that donations can still be made via the KWB JustGiving page, found here. Thank you again for all your support.
